Berlin, 13th November 2023 – Every year anew… supermarkets and food retailers use big feelings and emotional messages for their Christmas adverts. The creative company Ogilvy takes aim at this annual trend – and spread an important Christmas message of their own, for the fictional supermarket Kolinski: the third season of “The Discounters” is here.
The ten new episodes of the mockumentary series will be available to watch on Prime Video from 22 November 2023. To announce the start of the new season and spread the Christmas spirit in an ironic way, Ogilvy has produced a two-minute campaign advert with the cast for the streaming service, which also serves as the official trailer for the third season.
In the advert, Kolinski shares important Christmas messages, which are repeatedly interrupted and humorously reinterpreted by bizarre scenes from the new season. Helge Hoffmann, Creative Director at Ogilvy Germany, calls this “a deliberate satire of the emotional Christmas messages of real supermarkets, which are once again dominating our advertising blocks this year. In keeping with the tenor of the series – with a wink, of course.”
On top of Germany-wide OOH advertising, additional special placements, mobile OOH spots, further teasers and social media postings were conceptualised and created. Here, too, unconventional Christmas messages such as “Aprpreciate what you have – go for more!” are shared.
