Ken Roman, former Chairman and CEO of Ogilvy, has been honored by the Business Council for Peace (Bpeace), receiving the organization’s Lifetime Impact Award for advancing the careers of women.
Roman is one of 10 total recipients of BPeace’s 2019 Women Forward Awards, a national competition judged by a panel of female CEOs which identified 45 finalists before selecting the final 10.
As a leader during his time at Ogilvy, which began in 1963, Roman was instrumental in advancing the careers of many women, including hiring the agency and industry’s first female account executive, female General Counsel, and appointing the first female board member. In addition, Roman oversaw Ogilvy and the industry’s first company-sponsored Day Care Facility and ensured that opened all company training programs were open to women employees.
“It just never occurred to me to do anything but to hire the best person,” Roman said.
Ogilvy continues to build on the legacy that Roman and other leaders before started. One of the key aspects of Ogilvy’s Next Chapter strategy is to address the gender imbalance among the agency’s global leadership. There is still work to do, but the agency is committed to doing its part to solve the gender imbalance issue that exists in the advertising industry and much of the business world at large.
Please join us in congratulating Ken and the other recipients of Bpeace’s Women Forward Awards.
