In 2020 there were 823 internet love scams in Singapore. A 13-fold increase from only 62 cases in 2011. And this time it cheated Singaporean women of $24.6 million.
How could we change behaviour and make women more vigilant to scams? We found love scam victims were smart, educated, tech savvy women. 53% of victims are graduates. And yet 17% are repeat victims. How are women of a highly coveted, successful demographic falling prey to scams time and again? Using behavioural science, we found 2 biases core to this.
With a data driven approach, we mined real stories to find the most common tactics used to bait women and used these in scripting these moments into the film. Hidden within every scene was a sign to spot, that he was a scammer.
