In Hong Kong, gender-based violence is considered a family affair, often going unreported due to a lack of evidence. Studies show that the vast majority of incidents share common, specific verbal insults that precede physical abuse. Ogilvy Hong Kong, in partnership with Women Helping Women and distributed through community groups and women's organizations in Hong Kong, created Undercover—the first app specifically designed to detect domestic violence by recognizing the language used in abusive situations. Using AI, the app can determine if an incident is escalating and send an emergency alert to a pre-determined, trusted contact.
