No woman should be prevented from doing something because she is a woman and menstruates. With that in mind, Intimus/Kotex has released a short about one of the world’s first female football referees, Lea Campos, and her fight to be a football referee in Brazil. The 3-minute film recounts the story of how Campos was banned from refereeing matches in 1967 by officials who cited her periods as a disability that would impair her ability to do her job. Debuting during this year’s FIFA World Cup, the film underscores the importance of fighting pre-judgments and prejudices related to menstruation.
