Soccer and religion are the two biggest passions in Latin America. They're almost one the same. So when the biggest club competition in the region pitted Argentean club Flamengo and Brazilian club River Plate, the Brazilians had to go big. After all, Argentina was home to "Hand of God" Diego Maradona, as well as the Pope himself. Flamengo and Adidas decided to go one step higher—emblazining Rio de Janeiro's famous Christ the Redeemer statue with a black and red striped Flamengo jersey. Not only did the campaign and the team become famous around the globe, they won the championship.
